How do we talk about issues that matter?
In this module we were asked "how do we talk about issues that matter". The answer to that question would be a lot of different answers. We talk about issues that matter to mainly get our point across for it to make sense and for other people to agree or disagree within the issues.. In the module we had to read “How I Faced My Identity When Teaching the Reconstruction Era” it covered a topic of how to approach racism and race to a predominately urban or rural student body. The author Brigid Rowling’s realized that by embracing who she is and embraced her surroundings provided her with an entry point and lens to engage to her students in a thoughtful lesson in that particular era. She explained how she approached the topic carefully due to her classroom consisting of ethnically diverse students and didn’t want to say anything that would offend anyone or be taken negatively. When she went over the Civil War and what had happened to African Americans the students were shocked....
