Why Teach?

In this module, I learned that teachers don't have a set curriculum given to them. I didn't realize it until this module, I would always get confused that some of my friends from a different school would learn different things and not read the same books I read. I was surprised about the hidden curriculum, its described as how one should behave, who people are, what gender, class and culture are learned through the hidden curricula and the assumptions that are embedded in language and culture. As a future educator I need to make sure that my students are fully engaged within the curriculum and actually want to learn. I already knew about the explicit curriculum due to me having to follow the routines and procedures in the classroom that were being formed since kindergarten to twelfth grade. The lower income schools have a lack of materials and resources to succeed, while as higher income schools have more than enough resources to succeed.

Schools all around the world are different in many ways. An example would be that they have different curriculums and teaching styles to benefit the students. No school is the exact same, especially when it comes down to the same level of education each school has.   In the article “Separate and Unequal: School funding in post-racial America” Every state had relied heavily on the local property taxes that were funded to public schools in the United States. It created how school districts were viewed as unequal issuance of money to wealth discrimination. The more districts with higher property taxes are able to raise more money for the funding of schools versus the poorer districts. In the article it stated that majority of American public schools are viewed as segregated, and the vast majority of those students are classified as low-income students. There needs to be a clear round of communication in schools. Education is very important in order for one to succeed. Communication is needed in a classroom with the students from teachers in order to accommodate into their needs in the classroom to be able to understand and help them in any way they can possibly can. Effective communication with other teachers has the benefits of sharing ideas for lesson plans, advice, collaboration and much more. Engaging with other teachers in the school is super beneficial for the students and teacher effectiveness. Without communication the students wouldn’t be as successful as they could be with the use of communication.  The teachers need an effective communication skill with the students to be able to understand how they need to learn and also need to build on the trust between the student and teacher.   Gender stereotypes have a major impact on our society today, especially in schools. In Teacher Wars, chapter two; Repressed indignation was based off of Susan B Anthony who was a woman’s right activist. She accomplished anti-slavery that abolished slavery, leader of the American equal rights association, and founded the national woman suffrage association, she brought attention to the issue of women’s suffrage and way many more significant turnings points of the United States. She was a top leader in the women’s suffrage movement, which led to the nineteenth amendment which allowed women the right to finally vote. She also fought for equal rights between men and women. School is a place where we have fought important battles including the practice of democracy itself. American system of public schools is one of the most nations most significant and still unfinished movements. By the time of the revolutionary war vast majority of Americans were educated just enough to be able to read newspapers and figure out taxes.  I believe that teaching is an ultimate gift to be able to impact the lives of the students that you come by. No matter what subject that I choose to teach I know it will guide me to help students exceed their indiviudal growth. Teachers are very special people. I had multiple teachers that had impacted my life drastically. Everyday they always had a big smile on their faces and just were excited to teach and that made us actually want to engage in class because it felt like a safe place to my classmates and I. I was motivated by them to become a Teacher because I want to be that one teacher that every student would go to if they needed anything and have my students feel safe and understood.
